LoZ: Light and Shadow

Chapter 1

(Before we begin I'd like to say this is my first fan fiction so any advice on how to post fan fictions would be VERY helpful. I would also like to note that I will put links to songs that I believe will set the mood for the fan fiction in the description so if you could check that before you start reading that would also be helpful. No hating plz. Thank you for deciding to read my fan fiction~.)

Four years have passed since the defeat the Wind Mage Vaati and the Demon King Ganon by a young hero wielding the Four Sword. Using the power of the Four Sword, the hero split into four beings and, with their combined strength, took down the villains bringing peace once more to the land of Hyrule. Since then, Hyrule has been a peaceful kingdom, only having a bit of excitement now and then from thieves and gangs trying to get away with as much loot as possible. However, this was all going to change, for the forces of darkness were gathering once more. To seek its revenge on the ones who opposed it and betrayed it..

"Link! Where are you?", boomed a voice from the Knight's training yard, "It's time for your training lessons! Link? Link!". The voice belonged to non other then Link's father, Head Knight & First Knight of Hyrule. He had been looking for his son for the past twenty minutes but couldn't seem to find any sign of him. "Where has that boy run off to this time.." he sighed as he looked around the training yard. Seeing that his son wasn't there, he decided to check the stables since Link was known to hang out there during his free time and take naps. "I swear, if he's taking a nap again he's going to being getting a earful from me..." the first knight grumbled to himself. "He's 16 now, almost a full grown man. He needs to start taking on bigger responsibilities, like keeping his skills sharp during peace time." When he entered the stables, everything seemed to be in place. Only a few horses where missing along with one young filly in particular...

"Epona..." the knight sighed to himself, shaking his head in disbelief.

"WHOO HOO! Faster, Epona, faster! Ha ha~!"  Link had taken his filly Epona out for a run in Hyrule Field as a means of "getting out" and enjoying himself. He raced Epona around the wide open field, making sharp turns around trees and boulders just for the mere excitement it brought him. He loved excitement, the rush it gives as it builds up. There wasn't anything like it and, frankly, there was hardly any excitement in the kingdom since the defeat of the Demon King and the demise of the wind mage. They were in peacful times now, so he would find ways to get his adrenaline pumping without causing too much trouble. Riding Epona helped satisfy his hunger for excitement somewhat but...there was something else he craved for; Adventure! After experiencing the adventure of a life time he wanted more of it. He hadn't realized how much he missed it until now. He was always thinking about going on adventures. Even while riding Epona he was thinking about it; over coming enemies, facing new challenges, solving puzzles, saving the princess~. He couldn't help but wish something exciting would happen that eventually would take him on another adventure. If only he knew what fate had in store for him.

While his mind was distracted by these thoughts, he didn't notice that Epona was gaining more and more speed as he was in his own little world of imagination. Normally, Link wouldn't be so easily distracted, however, he was restless and wanted at least something to happen.  It wasn't until he heard Epona whiny he finally snapped back into reality to notice how fast they were going. She was running straight for a wooden fence some distance away. He hadn't tried jumping fences with Epona yet but that wasn't going to stop him from taking this opportunity.

Crouching in the saddle a bit, Link kept his filly Epona on course for the wooden fence just a few yards from them. "Lets see what you can do, Epona." he whispered to his young horse with a grin on his face. Epona responded with a neigh of excitement at her master's voice, galloping faster and faster as the fence came nearer and nearer to them. If horses could grin, you can bet there was one on Epona's face as well for she too loved excitement.

The fence was only a few feet from them now. At the last moment, Epona leaped over the fence, clearing it with ease and grace. With the wind wildly blowing in Link's face, he let out a loud cry of excitement as they 'soared' through the air. "Yeeeah!" It was only for a few seconds but to him, those few seconds felt like minutes. When they touched the grassy field again, Link slowed down Epona into a halt so they both could  catch their breaths. "That was amazing! It was like we were flying! Why didn't I try this sooner?" Epona neighed at how her master worded his question. "I mean why didn't we try this sooner." He patted his young horse's neck and smiled at her, "Your a wonderful horse, Epona. Any knight would want you as their horse." She whinnied happily at him, watching her master dismount her and pat her on the nose. She neighed gently at her master's touch, nudging her mussel into his chest. "Heh heh, I love you too, Epona." He hugged her mussel in a childish way with a big smile on his face. "Why don't you go and eat among the grass for a bit? I'm going to lay down a for a while." Sitting down, he laid back down on to the grass, looking up at the blue sky above him. He watched as the clouds took shapes of familiar things like a wolf, a bird, a ship, and many other things. He sighed as he watched the clouds, thinking again about how he longed for adventure once more.

"You know Epona, Things are just too quiet around here. Don't you wish there was just a little excitement in the kingdom?"  Epona whinnied as she looked at her master as if agreeing with him. "I know it sounds wrong to wish that but you understand what I mean. I know father wants me to train to keep me prepared if something were to happen to the kingdom like last time and I understand that. However, it gets boring after a while. I don't learn anything new, just the same old moves and skills.." He looked down from the sky and sighed, "I just want some excitement back in my life.."

Suddenly, a loud boom thundered through the sky as a blue disk appeared in the sky over Faron Woods. "huh?!" Link immediately got up in surprise and stared at the glowing disk. From what he could see, it looked a lot like a "magic circle" with different symbols in it, including the crest of the Hyrulian royal family; the Triforce. "What the-?!" From the disk fell what looked to be a young girl. She fell down into the woods, screaming in fear until she disappeared into the trees. Dumbfounded at what just happened, Link watched as the disk disappeared suddenly as it had come. Once it disappeared, he snapped out of his trance and swung onto Epona's saddle. "Come on, Epona! We got to go find her. She could of been hurt from the fall or worse.." Sending his filly rearing up on her legs, Epona galloped into the forest in search for the strange young girl.

They soon came into a clearing in the woods where the young girl laid unconscious. She wasn't like any girl he's seen before. She looked to be about 15 years old, her hair was a golden blond, she had blue-ish gray wolf-like ears on the top of her head instead of normal ears, she had a fluffy blue-ish gray wolf-like tail that was white near the tip, and she was dressed in a more feminine version of a tunic that was blue. Link slid off the saddle and walked over to her, examining the young girl for any injuries. The only injury he could find was a bruise on her forehead... and the mark of the Triforce on her right hand?!  "But...that's impossible. Only the Hyrulian royal family carry the crest of the Triforce..." he exclaimed. "Who is this girl?" he thought.  "And why is she here..?"
